“Providing a space without judgement, a space in which my client can be themselves completely, a space where they can be understood, supported and be shown empathy and unconditional positive regard; this is what I would like to create in a counseling experience for every client.”

Santokh Singh

I came into the field of counseling with an eagerness to help others. My clinical training involved working with a variety of school aged children in the Baltimore city school system and adults in a private practice setting. Other clinical work focused on play therapy with preschool aged children and their families and I’ve also had experience working with adults experiencing trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and a variety of other mental health challenges. I incorporate evidence based in my counseling practice during treatment such as the application of cognitive behavioral therapy approaches and interventions, but I also draw from a multi-disciplinary approach to therapy.

I spent my clinical training learning the most effective approaches and strategies for helping individuals facing mental health related challenges. I worked at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in the school based mental health program working with elementary, middle and senior school aged children. I learned that one of the most important things about working with kids was to establish rapport and finding ways to connect. Gaining the trust and respect of teens goes a long way when it comes to weekly sessions of therapy. I connected with kids in a way that even surprised me, and that’s why I do enjoy my work with kids/teens. I also have worked and continue to work at a group practice in Baltimore called Complete Wellness. My work here began with clinical training and then I was hired as a clinician. At Complete Wellness I’ve been working a lot with adults facing a multitude of different mental health challenges. I very much enjoy the feeling of being in a group practice because it allows for collaboration with other clinicians.

Understanding that people are unique and from diverse backgrounds and experiences, helps me utilize interventions that best suit a client’s circumstances. As a counselor, I am committed to working with others and guiding them through adverse life circumstances, whether these challenges are short term or chronic. Coming from a long career working in fitness, I also understand that mental health is part of a holistic approach to wellness. Supporting a client’s mental, emotional, physical and environmental needs is important to the way I approach treatment. I consider myself as a strong advocate of the LGBTQ community, and I am aware that I need to work hard to protect and advocate for the rights of all people who feel marginalized.

“I am so thankful to be working in a field where I believe I can make a real difference; supporting individuals,

children and families thrive to be the best version of themselves”.
